Deen Bandhu Samaj Sahyog , Indore launched the awareness campaign in ten different urban labour slums for selection of better candidates in recent Parliament election. As we all know that in present scenario, we have only choice of electing BAD or WORSE, there is no choice of GOOD or BETTER. So this time, the joint effort of DBSS , SIC Federation and CHINGARI group (cultural forum of college & community youth) tried to make aware our community people’s to select a precise or appropriate person as their representative.
CHINGARI group performed the street play in 10 different communities of Indore i.e. Rahul Gandhi Nagar , Indrajeet Nagar , New Suryadev Nagar , Daak-Taar Colony , Suryadev Nagar Purani Basti , Budh Nagar , Anna Bhau Sathe Nagar , Chikitsak Nagar , Vidhya Sagar Nagar– 140 scheme & Panchsheel Nagar from 15th April till 21st April. All this slums has seen the pain of eviction in past and they had been relocated far from the cities or at the fringe of the city. Since more than 20 years, they are still lacking the basic amenities such as clean drinking water, electricity, toilets (especially for the women), primary health & education centre and more important after a long period still they are not having a legal land entitlement with them , though they have been assured to provide legal entitlement at the time of relocation. In every election candidates from different parties promises them for many things, but after election, they don’t come back. Through the street play “ AAHUTI“ , the actors tried to alert the community people’s about their rights , they gave the message that all the above mentioned needs are our RIGHT but THEY treat us as a BENEFICIARIES , which is absolutely wrong.
The aggression has been observed for political parties in every slum where this play was performed , especially by women’s , they stated that they faces the daily problem , because mostly men’s are outside during the day, the main problem which came during the discussion after the play was the problem of going toilets in an open area , one of the lady from Anna Bhau Sath Nagar told that , people from buildings & bungalows take photos or make the video , when we go in open areas for toilets , and when we oppose for such a nasty act , the police take their side , this is really a awful knock on our dignity. The other major problem was the lacking of clean drinking water.
In each slum after the play, people took oath to choose the right candidate this time, that this time they will not put themselves for sale (their voting right) for liquor or money. They jointly raised the slogan That “VOTE KE BADLE NOTE NAHI, PAANCH SAAL KI CHOT NAHI“. Through this play community realises that they are also very powerful in this election set-up , no government can be build without their crucial support , during this six day campaign , many people’s from the community joined the SIC’c federation and youth with the CHINGARI group. The speciality of this play was that, with college youth, the community youth also played role in the play. Amar Chandne and Subhash Shinde (Ragpickers from Anna Bhau Sathe Nagar) made the play live through their pounding presentation.
The song during the play inspired too much to the community:
